Over £5,000 raised for Bloodwise – Thank You!

Three weeks ago we held our organisational wide Bake for Bloodwise charity campaign and we were amazed and delighted at the positive response. We are extremely proud to reveal that together we have raised over £5,000 for Bloodwise.

We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who got behind the Bake for Bloodwise week, (18 –  24 September), the money raised will help to fund pioneering research and patient support.

Gemma Peteres, CEO of Bloodwise – “Thank you to all the staff at NHS Blood and Transplant who baked for Bloodwise and have raised a fantastic amount. Your enthusiasm and culanary skills shone during the week and we have seen some fantastic bake sales to rival even the Great British Bake Off! Every penny you have raised will make a huge difference to blood cancer patients by helping us fund life-saving research and support services”.

It has been wonderful to see and hear that both colleagues from all areas of the organisation and blood donors enjoyed the event. Emma-Kate Chawishly – Senior Clinical Audit Facilitator from Colindale really captured the spirit of the event: “Everyone really came together for this campaign. Some amazing home baking was brought in, along with store bought items. Staff donated generously – whether they took a treat or not.”

Mike Stredder, Director of Blood Donation – “ I am really proud of how our colleagues at NHS Blood and Transplant took on this challenge and did us proud, some baked some brilliant treats, others stepped up to the plate in a different way and bought a cake from it!”

Where does the money raised go?
Here are some of the ways in which your money helps:

  • £100 provides 150 hospital waiting rooms information posters that show the ways they can help.
  • £200 ensures every single person diagnosed with blood cancer today is armed with vital knowledge of their disease – by sending them our high quality patient information booklets.
  • £500 funds a nurse to provide patients help, support, and a hand to hold at one of our groundbreaking clinical trials for three days
  • £1,000 funds crucial investigation into developing less harsh treatments for people with blood cancer – allowing researchers to analyse the DNA of 40 patients.

Do you still need to send your your donations?

If you have held an event but haven’t yet sent in the money raised please send to Newcastle as soon as possible.

Please label the envelope with the following return address: Pay Support, Newcastle, Holland Dr, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE2 4NQ. Please do not return direct to Bloodwise!
