Changes to the blood donation process

The 2015 blood donation experience

Over the course of this year we will be phasing out the action of wiping a donor’s finger with an alcohol wipe, prior to performing the finger prick test. A review of current practice within the wider NHS and other healthcare settings, found that this was an unnecessary step and added no benefit to preventing infection.
